Notes from Fifth Grade
Welcome to Fifth Grade!
We are looking forward to seeing you on August 18! This is going to be an exciting year for all of us! Fifth grade means new adventures-- new friends, new teachers, changing classes, participating in the DARE program, and much, much more!
Here's a copy of the supply list and the summer reading list. Have a great summer!
Claiborne Magnet Fifth Grade Supply List
3 marbled composition books
5 spiral composition notebooks (1 subject)
3 packages of loose leaf notebook paper (wide-ruled)
2 large boxes of Kleenex
1 school-sized blunt edged scissors
2 glue sticks
3 packages of pencils (#2; not mechanical)
1 box crayons (24 count)
3 duotang folders with pockets (1 red, 1 yellow, 1 blue)
Pencil pouch
Ruler or protractor
1 package manila drawing paper
School fees: $22.00 due the first day of school; includes art, pe, music and science
Fifth Grade Summer Reading:
Students may choose any two books from the list below as their summer reading assignment. The books selected must be at or above your current reading level.
During the first week of school, students will be required to take an AR test on both of the books. Students should also be prepared to complete a book report or other project related to the books they choose to read.

Students do not need to purchase books. All of these books are available at public libraries. Should you decide to purchase them, Betty's Books on King's Hwy has a large selection of quality used books. You will also find all of these books at Barnes and Noble, Books A Million and other local bookstores.
